St. Louis, MO – It could be another week before some grocery workers find out if they can get unemployment pay.
The grocery strike is entering its third week in the St. Louis area. Striking workers generally can't get unemployment, but workers who were locked-out might qualify. The local grocers' union originally struck Shop & Save stores; workers at Schnuck's and Dierberg's were then locked out.
A state labor and industrial relations official says there are a number of complicated issues involved in determining whether the workers are eligible.
The Missouri Labor Department originally estimated it would take 10-14 days from the time workers filed to determine if they would receive unemployment pay. Tuesday is day 15 of the strike.
