Jefferson City, Mo. – Supporters of a state memorial site in western Missouri have started a petition drive.
They're trying to get the state to put back the Confederate flag that flew over the site in Higginsville and at another state site until earlier this month.
The state took the flag down after presidential hopeful Dick Gephardt said they shouldn't fly anywhere.
The Sons of Confederate Veterans says that decision was purely political, and pays no regard to historical context. The group opposes the flag's use by white supremacists.
