St. Charles, MO – The Katy Trail and other bike paths have made St. Charles County a popular destination for bicyclists, but the county council is considering banning bikes from some roadways, a move that is drawing both kudos and anger.
The proposal would ban bikes from highways D, DD, F, Z and part of Route 94, mostly in the Defiance area.
These roadways have no shoulders. Supporters of the ban, including sponsoring council member Joe Brazil, say biking there is unsafe for both bikes and cars.
Opponents say bicyclists shouldn't be penalized because of the impatience of motorists. The issue will be brought up again at a meeting next month.
