St. Louis Clergy Leaders Urge End To Strike

By Matt Sepic, KWMU

St. Louis, MO – Leaders from four faiths -- gathered at the request of the United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local 655 -- said the strike is causing hardship in the community.

Pastor B. T. Rice of the New Horizon Seventh Day Christian Church in St. Louis said things are bad at his food pantry:

"I'd love for you to stop by and see our pantry as a result of this," Rice said. "Because the shelves are almost as bare as can be."

In a statement, the Greater St. Louis Food Employers' Council, which represents Schnuck's, Dierberg's and Shop & Save, thanked the clergy members, but said ending the strike is not within the stores' power.
