St. Louis County Considers Budget Cuts

By K. Lavery, KWMU

St. Louis, MO – The St. Louis County Council is reviewing the proposed 2003 budget. Tuesday, council members met with officials from the Parks and Recreation department, which is targeted to lose at least three full time employees next year. County officials say declines in sales tax revenue and a steady property tax rate is prompting service cuts. The proposed budget also calls for at least 10 positions to be cut from the county health department.

Operating funds outlined in the proposed 2003 budget are down by nearly one percent over the current 2002 budget.
