St. Louis County lawmaker wants to expand Mo. special session

DO NOT USE too small
Mo. House of Representatives
State Rep. John Diehl (R, Town and Country)

By Marshall Griffin, St. Louis Public Radio

Jefferson City, Mo. – A St. Louis County lawmaker wants the Missouri House and Senate to pass legislation to reduce taxes on business owners during the special session currently underway.

State Representative John Diehl (R, Town and Country) has filed a proposed constitutional amendment that would place restrictions on the merchants and manufacturer's replacement tax. It's paid by owners of commercial property.

Diehl calls the tax "obnoxious," and says it hurts Missouri's manufacturing industry. The resolution would also eliminate the tax completely in the year 2015.

Lawmakers are considering bills dealing with state pensions and with tax credits for Ford Motor Company's Kansas City plant.

Governor Jay Nixon would have to approve expanding the call of the special session in order for the proposed tax cut to be taken up.
