St. Louis police officer commits suicide amid child porn investigation

St. Louis – A St. Louis police officer who was under investigation in a child pornography case jumped out of a police car, ran away, and killed himself.

The officer's name was not released. Authorities said Wednesday he was 37 and had been with the department for 2 1/2 years.

St. Louis County police spokeswoman Tracy Panus said county
officers on Tuesday went to the officer's home after suspecting that a computer there contained child pornography. The computer and personal papers were seized.

City Internal Affairs officers were transporting the officer to St. Louis police headquarters when he got out and ran.

Several hours later, a resident found the officer behind a church and called 911. He died at a hospital.
