St. Louis, MO – The St. Louis man accused of shooting a St. Louis police officer has made his first court appearance.

Arvon Brown, 24, was in court Tuesday for an appearance related to last week's shooting of officer Joseph Haman, 26. The officer was struck six to eight times, but a bullet-resistant vest saved his life. His condition has been upgraded from "critical" to "fair".

Brown is charged with assault on a law enforcement officer, armed criminal action and resisting arrest. He is jailed on $525,000 cash-only bond.

The shooting happened Thursday at a service station after Haman stopped a vehicle. Authorities say he was speaking with the driver when someone from the back seat fired shots at him.
