St. Louis Police officers indicted

By Maria Altman, St. Louis Public Radio

St. Louis, MO. – The St. Louis Police Department has lost two more police officers to corruption charges.

The U.S. Attorney's office Friday announced the indictment of officers Christian Brezell and Ronald Jackson. Both face charges of stealing merchandise from a theft suspect, who was cooperating with the FBI.

Department spokeswoman Erica Van Ross says Brezill was terminated last month and Jackson retired last week under investigation.

Van Ross says Police Chief Dan Isom is working to root out corruption.

"The chief has said since being appointment chief last October that this was going to be one of his top priorities; ferreting out any individuals who abuse the very laws they're sworn to uphold," Van Ross said.

The indictment comes on the same day a former officer was sentenced to more than 12 months in prison on federal charges.

Vincent Carr, along with two other former officers, pleaded guilty to stealing money during a drug raid and attempting to cover up the theft.
