St. Louis Ranks 3rd in Nation's Allergy 'Capitals'

By AP/KWMU

Washington, D.C. – It's a ranking that's nothing to sneeze at.

The Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America ranks St. Louis third in its listing of the nation's top 50 allergy capitals.

Louisville came in first, followed by Austin, Texas. Kansas City came in 23rd.

The list by the Washington-based foundation identifies the most severe cities for people with allergies to live in or visit. The study was part of the organization's nationwide Allergy Action Plan to help consumers recognize, prevent and safely treat allergy symptoms.

Louisville was chosen as a prime allergy spot because of its higher-than-average annual pollen count, high number antihistamine prescriptions and lower-than-average number of allergists serving
the community.
