St. Louis School Board Plans Community Meetings

By B. Raack, KWMU

St. Louis, Mo. – The St. Louis School Board will hold a series of public forums to discuss the hiring of a so-called "corporate turnaround firm" to run the district.

The controversial hiring of the firm, "Alvarez and Marsal" last month followed the retirement of Superintendent Cleveland Hammonds. The firm will charge the district $5-million.

Board President Darnetta Clinkscale issued a statement Tuesday, saying she and other board members will be seeking as much community input as they can over the next two weeks.

Meantime, an aldermanic committee headed by Freeman Bosley, Senior, will hold a hearing on the firm's hiring Wednesday night. City aldermen have no authority over the school district.
