St. Louis Symphony and music director Robertson to encore at Carnegie Hall next year

Jan 26, 2016

The St. Louis Symphony will return to New York’s Carnegie Hall in March 2017.

Music director David Robertson will lead the symphony and chorus in a performance of John Adams’ “Gospel According to the Other Mary.” The event pays tribute to Adams’ 70th birthday.

The performance will include an international vocal ensemble, showcasing singer Kelley O’Connor. The mezzo-soprano performed the 2013 world premiere of the title role of “Gospel”

The opera/oratorio chronicles the final weeks of the life of Jesus from the point of view of Mary Magdalene, her sister Martha and her brother Lazarus. The libretto, or text, by Peter Sellars references the Old and New Testaments of the Bible.

In 2013, the Symphony presented Benjamin Britten's “Peter Grimes” at Carnegie Hall to mark that composer's 100th birthday.

The Symphony last performed at the world-renowned venue this past March.
