Jefferson City, MO – A state funeral will be held in Jefferson City Wednesday for former Governor Warren Hearnes.

The southeast Missouri Democrat passed away Sunday at his home in Charleston at the age of 86.

Scott Holste is Press Secretary for Governor Jay Nixon. He says thousands of people are expected to attend.

"We certainly think that people will come from around the state, particularly from southeast Missouri, for this service...this will be an opportunity for the public to pay their respects," Holste said.

Hearnes' body will lie in state at the Capitol Rotunda Wednesday from 7:30 a.m. until the service begins at 2:00 p.m.

Gov. Nixon, First Lady Georganne, and other dignitaries are expected to proceed past Hearnes' casket at about 10 a.m.

A second funeral will be held Friday in Hearnes' hometown of Charleston.

Governor Nixon will speak at both services.
