New campaign reports were due, and they show that McCaskill raised more money than Republican Senator Jim Talent in the first half of October. But McCaskill also took out a $500,000 loan to help her campaign buy more TV ads.

The report shows she raised about $1.9 million this month; Talent raised nearly $600,000 over the same period.

Throughout the entire campaign, though, Talent has raised more than $13 million, while McCaskill has raised more than $9 million.

A McCaskill spokeswoman says the money borrowed was against the equity on the Democrat's home, and the loan is expected to be repaid by Election Day.
