STL Police make 2 arrests for car break-ins

St. Louis Police arrested Michael Paynes and Calvin M. Willis Saturday night in connection with 20 car break-ins near Union Station June 29, 2011.

St. Louis police have arrested two men in connection with 20 car break-ins near Union Station on June 29th

Calvin M. Willis, 25, is charged with 2nd degree assault, 1st degree tampering and resisting arrest.

Michael Paynes, 23, is charged with 2nd degree tampering with a motor vehicle and resisting arrest.

St. Louis police say the suspects were spotted Saturday night in a vehicle that was determined to have been the vehicle used during the car break-ins. Police attempted to pull the vehicle over but the driver  took off at a high rate of speed and officers were forced to terminate the pursuit for safety reasons. Police spotted the vehicle again and were able to make the arrest.

Inside the vehicle, police found property reported stolen in several prior break-ins, including identification and social security cards.
