Storm Knocks Out Power to 100,000+ in St. Louis Area

St. Louis, MO – More than 100,000 people were without power Wednesday morning after thunderstorms moved through the St. Louis area Tuesday night.

The weather caused flooding and downed trees and power lines. AmerenUE says it will likely be later Wednesday or even Thursday before power is restored.

In Swansea, Ill. about 70 people had to be rescued after a tree fell on two Metrolink trains; no one was injured.

The National Weather Service reported heavy rain, a little hail and powerful winds in the region Tuesday night. A few homes and businesses had their roofs blown off, and some streets experienced temporary flooding.

The nursing supervisor at Memorial Hospital in Belleville said the hospital evaluated five people with storm-related injuries.
