Severe weather hit the St. Louis area once again this season. Severe winds, hail and large amounts of rain all contributed to today's storm.
So far, this is what we know:
- There are about 60,000 Ameren customers without power in the region. Most of that number is in St. Louis County.
- The Missouri Botanical Garden is closed for now. There are some hanging limbs and the Garden does not want them to fall on visitors. Power is also out at the Ridgeway Visitors Center at the Garden. One tree fell on one of the structures in the children’s garden causing some damage. Other possible damage is still being assessed.
- Metro trains are now back to normal operation. Initially, Metro said there were some MetroLink power outages on both sides of the river. Some tree limbs fell on the overhead lines near the UMSL South station, so they’re down to one line between Wellston and the airport for now. Delays are about 10-15 minutes. Metro says they expect everything to be back to normal by the afternoon rush.
- David Wrone with St. Louis County says there’s been very little damage, no significant street closures due to power lines, tree limbs, etc.
