Given the French heritage of St. Louis, one might expect Bastille Day to be a bigger deal here. Yes, the Chatillon-DeMenil House will host festivitiesfrom noon-3:30 p.m. July 12, including singing of “La Marseillaise.” And Soulard is hosting a “Gathering of the Mob” on July 10 and “Bastille en Vogue” During the former, the rabble — “in our worst peasant attire” — will start a Howard’s on 13th and Lynch at 5 p.m. and end up at Pontiac Park. The latter is a fashion show — “from a point of historical whimsy” — at Franco. Tickets are required for that.
The big event is in Maplewood.
“Let Them Eat Art” returns July 10 from 6-11 p.m. Farshid Ethniko will kick off the music at 6 p.m. on the stage at 2731 Sutton with The Gene Dobbs Bradford Blues Experience performing from 9-11 p.m. That’s not the only place to hear music. Throughout the town, you might hear Elliot Ranney, Kecia Davis, Kevin Bilchik, Bryan & Lola, Phatz Jango or Miss Julibee.
Events include tastings at Kakao Chocolate as well as offerings from Shakespeare Festival St. Louis and the Contemporary Art Museum.
Also Friday night, the MX district downtown is hosting STL Summer Fest, a block party with vendors and music. Head down around 7 p.m. to 7th and Washington.
