It’s Fourth of July weekend. And with Independence Day falling on a Saturday, a lot of people have Friday off. And that means parties can start Thursday evening. So what do you do?

The elephant in the room is Fair St. Louis, which is in Forest Park. Even if you aren’t planning to go, keep the location in mind as you plot travel around the area. With the only open entrances being at Hampton Avenue on the south and  Union Boulevard on the north, beware Interstate 64 and Lindell Boulevard or Forest Park Parkway (See Fair St. Louis officials encourage alternate transportation to Forest Park for a useful map.)

Music at the fair:

July 2

  • 5:30 p.m. Natalie Stovall and the Drive
  • 7 p.m. Parmalee
  • 8:45 p.m. Chris Young

July 3

  • 1:30 p.m. Noah Guthrie
  • 3 p.m. The Mowgli’s
  • 4:45 p.m. American Authors
  • 6:30 p.m. Blondie
  • 8:30 p.m. Melissa Etheridge

July 4

  • 12:45 p.m. KBeeta
  • 2:15 p.m. Dirty Muggs
  • 3:45 p.m. MCLyte
  • 5:15 p.m. Tony! Toni! Tone!
  • 7 p.m. Morris Day and the Time
  • 8:45 p.m. Kool & the Gang

Fireworks are set to follow the music each night.
Forest Park is not the only place to see the starbursts and bee hives of a major pyrotechnic production. We found a helpful list atstlouis.about.com — but people should check on the place of their choice because water has caused some of the events to move.

And rain could affect other weekend plans — again. So whether you’re planning a backyard get-together with friends, a trip to wineries, the concerts on The Big List below or checking out the music scene at City Museum, make certain the event is still on.

We are looking for other free, outdoor concert series to add. We have contacted some and will get the information onto the chart as soon as possible. Check back weekly for information about upcoming concerts.
