Last week we touted the Red Berries and Bluegrass Festival in Illinois, so naturally we want to check out the Strawberry Festival in Kimmswick this weekend. The website promises, “If it is made with strawberries you will find it at this festival.” We’re willing to bet, however, that as with last week, the music will be more bluegrass than red hot.
In the shameless-plug-for-my-neighborhood department, the Lafayette Square House and Garden Tour is this weekend. In addition to old homes that have been restored, or are in the process of getting there, visitors can see a vintage baseball festival and, of course, go to the first of the neighborhood’s free concerts. The tour is Saturday and Sunday. The concert is Saturday with Dawn Weber’s Swinging Blues Review. Music starts @ 6 p.m.
One of the criteria for the Big List is to be outdoors, so it doesn’t include one of my favorite free musical events: Opera Theatre’s Little Lunch Music concerts. This is plug number two, as St. Louis Public Radio is a sponsor of these 12:30 p.m. events. Here’s the lineup: On Monday, June 8, at St. Ambrose Church, 5130 Wilson Ave., you can hear soprano Sydney Mancasola, tenor Anthony Kalil, baritone Luis Alejandro Orozco and Maureen Zoltek on piano.
On June 15 at First Presbyterian Church of Kirkwood, 100 East Adams Ave., the artists will be soprano Devon Guthrie, tenor Charles Sy, bass-baritone Brandon Cedel and Damien Francoeur-Krzyzek on piano
On June 22 at Manchester United Methodist Church, 129 Woods Mills Rd., enjoy soprano Felicia Moore, mezzo-soprano Emily Fons, baritone Jonathan Beyer and Andrea Grant on piano
