Survey suggests regional economic growth

By AP/St. Louis Public Radio

Omaha, NE – A monthly survey continues to signal positive news for the regional economy.

The Business Conditions Index for the Mid-America region rose for the sixth month in a row, from 61.7 in April to 64.2 in May.

The index, which ranges from zero to 100, is overseen by Creighton University economics professor Ernie Goss. Goss says scores above 50 suggest economic growth in the next three to six months, while scores below 50 suggest a declining economy in the coming months.

The survey was compiled from supply managers and business leaders in Arkansas, Iowa, Kansas, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma and South Dakota.
