Jefferson City, MO – Missouri lawmakers are working to end a tax break for thousands of non-Missourians who work in the state.

Those who live in Illinois but work in Missouri, for example, can deduct property like a home or car from income taxes, even if that property isn't in Missouri. Legislation in Jefferson City would end that practice.

Blocking such a tax break would mean about $11 million more for Missouri each year.

The state Senate Thursday gave the plan an initial okay. It needs one more vote in the Senate before moving on.
