Tests Confirm Monkeypox Case
St. Louis, MO – Cardinal Glennon children's Hospital in St. Louis says a teenager from Illinois who had symptoms last week of monkeypox did, in fact, have the disease.
The 14-year old boy is now isolated at home; it's believe he caught monkeypox while playing with his uncle's prairie dog.
The boy was treated June tenth; government tests confirm the hospital's initial suspicions that the boy did have the milder relative of smallpox.
The hospital says it has monitored the boy's condition daily by telephone, and that he's doing fine.
No family members or members of the hospital staff that treated the child have shown monkeypox symptoms.
The Centers for Disease Control is currently testing 19 possible cases of monkeypox in Illinois and one in Missouri.
