Thousands Lose Power from Storms

By Matt Sepic, KWMU

St. Louis, MO – About 112,000 Ameren UE customers in the St. Louis area were still in the dark Tuesday afternoon after storms Monday and Tuesday knocked out electricity.

North and West St. Louis county were hit the worst, and a few thousand St. Charles County residents were without power Tuesday afternoon.

Ameren spokeswoman Erica Abbett said trees caused more problems this time than they usually do.

" With the strong winds that accompanied last night's storms, we ended up with a lot more trees down on power lines, and that will cause an outage," Abbett said.

Abbett said more than 800 workers are out repairing lines and trimming trees. Extra crews came in from out of town.

In the Metro East, about 3,000 Illinois Power customers were without power Tuesday afternoon.
