Today's municipal elections running smoothly
A low voter turnout was predicted across the board, but some areas are seeing higher turnout than expected.
Rich Chrismer, director of elections for St. Charles County, said the county is looking at an 18 percent turnout.
“I’d love to have eighteen percent,” Chrismer said, explaining that though the number is nowhere as high as during a presidential election, it’s still higher than expected.
Mary Wheeler-Jones, Democratic director of elections for St. Louis city, says she knows turnout will be low, but she’s still impressed with how smooth things are going.
Jones said all 125 polling places are reported to have opened on time.
Only one minor issue today: voters at one polling place in St. Louis County had to wait a few extra minutes to get inside this morning when volunteers arrived at the polling location to find it locked.
Polls will close tonight at 7 p.m.
