Train Carrying Nuclear Waste Will Travel Through MO

By AP/KWMU

Kansas City, MO – A train carrying high-level nuclear waste will cross Missouri this year. Ed Gray, with Missouri's Emergency Management Agency, says the shipment will go from West Valley, New York to the northwestern U.S.

Protests cancelled a similar shipment in 2001. That route had the waste entering Missouri near Hannibal and leaving from Kansas City.

A specific date for this year's trip is not yet set.

Gray says he's holding safety training at locations where the shipment will pass. One was last week in Moberly, which is 35 miles north of Columbia.
