Two Arrested in Weekend Crime Spree

By K. Lavery, KWMU

St. Louis, Mo. – Two men are in St. Louis police custody following a rash of carjackings over the weekend that killed one person and injured three others.

Police chief Joe Mokwa says police have identified and are searching for two other men from the suspects' same neighborhood. Police will seek murder, robbery and assault charges against the two suspects. Mokwa says the men have a history of past offenses.

"We have a dozen crimes that we've linked these young men that we have in custody, and I'm certain before the next 30 days are out, that we're going to link them to other crimes. Many of them aren't going to be violent crimes, but they're going to be thefts from automobiles and stolen cars," Mokwa said.

Mokwa says a carjacking task force will use bait cars installed with satellite tracking systems and police officers posing as decoys to try to apprehend other suspects.
