Two state buildings evacuated in Jefferson City due to snow on roofs

One of two DHSS buildings in Jefferson City evacuated due to large amounts of snow on the roofs.

Two state office buildings in Jefferson Citywere evacuated today, due to large amounts of snow on the roofs.

More than 550 people work in the two buildings, which house the Missouri Dept. of Health and Senior Services.Office of Administration(OA) spokesperson Emily Smith says engineers are analyzing the roofs while workers remove the snow.

 

"They'll be working throughout the entire weekend to get the snow removed, and following the structural evaluation, we will know something early this weekend," Smith said.

The blizzard that struck Missouri this week dumped 18 inches of snow in Jefferson City.

OA Commissioner Kelvin Simmonssays he hopes employees that work in the two buildings will be able to return to work Monday.
