United Flight Makes Emergency Landing in Columbia, Ill.

By AP/KWMU

Columbia, Ill. – A United Express flight from Kansas City to Washington D.C. made an emergency landing in Columbia, Ill. on Sunday after one of the plane's two engines failed.

In all, there were 46 people on board; about a dozen passengers rented cars to drive to Lambert Airport and catch flights there. The rest waited for another plane to retrieve them.

The pilot reported failure in the left engine about 10:30 Sunday morning. The Bombardier CL-65 is said to have burned off enough fuel to reach its landing weight and touched down at Columbia around 10:45.
