Venice School Board Faces Being Disbanned

By AP/KWMU

Venice, ILL. – The Venice School Board near East St. Louis has one more chance to balance its budget. If not, the panel appointed to oversee the districts finances might disband the school board. The Financial Oversight Panel Tuesday night rejected the board's latest budget, in part, because it still would have left the district $180,000 in the red.

If the board doesn't come up with a balanced budget by the Oct. 16th meeting and is disbanded, the regional superintendent of schools will appoint a new board. The district of 180 students is located along the Mississippi River, near East Saint Louis.
