Vintage landmine draws bomb squad to suburban home

By AP/KWMU

Town & Country, Mo. – Federal agents found a nonworking landmine in the suburban St. Louis home of a former investment banker awaiting sentencing in a $13 million fraud case.

U.S. Postal inspector Dan Taylor said FBI agents and other officers went to the home of Don C. Weir in Town and Country yesterday to seize his assets as part of a plea deal.

Among a collection of war memorabilia they found a Soviet-style landmine. But a bomb squad determined the mine was not live.

In February, Weir admitted selling his clients' gold coins, currency and other precious metals and pocketing the money. He'll be sentenced in July.
