By AP/KWMU

St. Louis, MO – Washington University is one of 14 sites that have applied to host a presidential debate in 2004.

The campus has hosted two other debates, in 1992 and 2000.

The 2000 debate took place just one day after the late Governor Mel Carnahan died in a plane crash. The 1992 debate made history: It was the first televised presidential debate that featured three candidates (George Bush, Bill Clinton, and Ross Perot).
