Washington University Will Host Debate

St. Louis, MO – Washington University in St. Louis will host a Presidential Debate next year. The Commission on Presidential Debates announced its sites for the forums this morning.

The St. Louis campus will host the second of three presidential debate on Oct. 8, 2004. This will be the third debate at the school.

The 2000 debate took place just one day after the late Governor Mel Carnahan died in a plane crash. The 1992 debate made history: It was the first televised presidential debate that featured three candidates (George Bush, Bill Clinton, and Ross Perot).

Washington University was also scheduled to host a debate in 1996, but that event was canceled.

Three other sites for next year were named, as well. The first Presidential debate will be at the University of Miami, Coral Gables, FL. The third Presidential debate will be at Arizona State University in Tempe.

A vice-presidential debate has also been scheduled at Case Western Reserve University Cleveland, OH.

Washington University officials will make an official announcement this afternoon at 1:30.
