Weekend lane closures widespread in St. Louis

If you're driving in the St. Louis area this weekend, be patient. The Missouri Department of Transportation will have a lot of crews out there, and that means lane closures.

Here are the highlights:

  • Eastbound I-64 will be closed from Jefferson to the Poplar Street Bridge from 8 p.m. tonight to 5 a.m. Monday. Crews will continue their road and bridge work on the double-decked section of the interstate, including an earthquake retrofit project.
  • The two left lanes in both directions on the Poplar Street Bridge will also close at 8  p.m. Friday. The westbound lanes should open by 3 a.m. Monday, and the eastbound lanes at 5 a.m.
  • Crews will close one or two lanes on westbound I-270 between Lindbergh and I-270 to make bridge repairs along that stretch of highway. The closure start late tonight. Just one lane will be closed during the day on Saturday and Sunday, and all lanes should re-open by 5 a.m. Monday.
  • Bridge repair will also close lanes on both north and southbound I-170 near the airport. Highway ramps from Hanley/Frost will also be closed starting at 8:30 tonight and re-opening at 5 a.m. Monday.

A week from today, MoDOT will close all lanes of I-70 between 10th Street and the Poplar Street Bridge. And on October 10th, the agency will permanently close the I-70 ramp to 10th Street as part of the new Mississippi River Bridge project.
