Wentzville, Mo. – St. Louis used to be the second largest auto-producing city in the U.S. after Detroit. Now, Ford is long gone, Chrysler will close its one remaining Fenton plant next year and General Motors teeters on the brink of bankruptcy.
Many speculate that GM's Wentzville plant, the last holdout of the St. Louis auto industry, may also be in jeopardy. GM has until the government-imposed June 1 deadline to come up with a downsizing plan.
