White powder in Charter mailroom found harmless

Town & Country, Mo. – A white powder found in an envelope at Charter Cable's offices in Town & Country turned out to be harmless.

An employee discovered the substance Monday afternoon while opening mail at a customer service and call center.

Authorities would not let about 300 workers leave the building for more than two hours while the substance was examined. Arriving workers were not allowed to enter the building either.

West County EMS and Fire Protection District spokeswoman Kim Bacon says the substance was probably a common household product.
