Columbia, Ill. – Authorities say a Metro East woman accused of trying to drown her baby in a toilet late last year was allowed to take the child home from the hospital after the incident.

Police in Columbia, Ill. said Elyse Mamino, 23, had custody of the baby girl Victoria from the time of the child's release from a hospital in December until Mamino was arrested last week.

Authorities say they found the remains of another infant in Mamino's home in Belleville, which date back more than a year. No charges have been filed yet in that case.

Mamino faces a charge of attempted first-degree murder. She's being held on $250,000 bond.

A spokesperson for the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services said the baby is in a relative's care.
