Alarm Will Sound, which conductor Alan Pierson describes as “the orchestra of the 21st century,” will debut two pieces this weekend in St. Louis.

On Friday, the group will perform "Miles Re-Vision" by local composer Peter Martin at a concert at the Sheldon Concert Hall celebrating St. Louis' musical history.

Alarm Will Sound, the 20-member contemporary chamber music ensemble that has gained worldwide acclaim since its debut in 2001, has become a fixture in St. Louis since October 2012 – presenting an annual concert series at venues such as the Sheldon Concert Hall, the Pageant and the Touhill Performing Arts Center at the University of Missouri-St. Louis.

Alarm Will Sound, a 20-member ensemble, critically acclaimed for its performances of new music by emerging composers since its debut in 2001, has played all around the world and released six recordings over that time.

Since October 2012, Alarm Will Sound has built a strong presence in St. Louis with an annual concert series. The 2012-13 concerts took place at the Sheldon Concert Hall and the Touhill Performing Arts Center at the University of Missouri-St. Louis.

Alarm Will Sound Remembers The Year 1969

In the late 1990’s Eastman School of Music students Gavin Chuck and Alan Pierson saw the need for a top notch ensemble to perform their compositions and other contemporary music.  They set to work and formed the student ensemble Ossia.  One of their more notable concerts was one in 1999 that featured music by Steve Reich which the composer attended. After the concert, Reich expressed to the group his desire for an American new music ensemble that would be equivalent to England’s London Sinfonietta or Germany’s Ensemble Modern.
