The Cardinals claimed Game 1 of the World Series last night at Busch Stadium against the Texas Rangers.
Pinch-hitter Allen Craig drove in the go-ahead run to give the Cardinals a 3-2 win. Lance Berkman put the Cardinals ahead with a two-run single in the fourth, and Rangers catcher Mike Napoli tied the game with a home run the next inning. Pitcher Chris Carpenter got the win, allowing five hits in six innings. Allen Craig says it worked out to have Carpenter on the mound during the first game.
Be prepared for extra security at Busch Stadium tonight
If you're going to Game One of the World Series tonight, expect it to take a little longer to get into Busch Stadium. In addition to added security due to the importance of the game, First Lady Michele Obama and Vice President Joe Biden's wife, Dr. Jill Biden, will be in attendance.
St. Louis Police Chief Dan Isom says the department is coordinating security with the Secret Service and it will be a challenge.
The St. Louis Cardinals are the National League champions following an outstanding offensive display in Milwaukee last night.
David Freese belted one of the Cardinals' three home runs while going 3-for-4 with three runs scored in a 12-6 rout of the Brewers in Game 6 of the NLCS. Freese smacked a three-run shot to put the Cardinals ahead 4-0 in the first inning. Rafael Furcal launched a solo blast in the second and Albert Pujols did the same in the third. Pujols and pinch-hitter Allen Craig each finished with two RBIs.

The Milwaukee Brewers beat the Cardinals last night 4-2 to even the NL championship series at 2 games a piece. Matt Holliday and Allen Craig homered for the Cardinals, representing their only runs in the last 16 innings. The Brewers ended an eight-game road losing streak in the postseason dating to the 1982 World Series opener at St. Louis. Jaime Garcia faces Zack Greinke for the second time in the series in Game 5 tonight.
East St. Louis Police Chief will not resign after all
Albert Pujols hit an RBI double during a four-run first inning and the St. Louis bullpen bailed out ChrisCarpenter as the Cardinals beat the Milwaukee Brewers 4-3 last night for a 2-1 edge in the NL championship series.
In a matchup of aces, neither Carpenter nor 17-game Yovani Gallardo made it past the fifth. The one-run lead Carpenter handed over was just enough, as four relievers combined for four perfect innings.
