Hearing continues in Clemons' death penalty case

Missouri death row inmate Reginald Clemons says detective interrogators beat him so badly he admitted to raping two sisters who were pushed to their deaths from the old Chain of Rocks Bridge.


Clemons testified today at a special hearing that he confessed because he feared for his life. He is on death row for the 1991 rape and murder of 20-year-old Julie Kerry and 19-year-old Robin Kerry.


After the hearing, the Missouri Supreme Court will decide whether to commute Clemons' death sentence and possibly require a new trial.

Proposed amendment to appear on November ballot

A Missouri appeals court panel has upheld the ballot summary for a proposed constitutional amendment that would change the process for selecting appellate judges.

In its ruling Monday, a three-judge panel of the Western District Court of Appeals certified the summary that voters will see on the November ballot.

Region's bikers get good news

Bikers and hikers in St. Louis got two pieces of good news today.

Great Rivers Greenway, which is trying to develop 600 miles of trails throughout the region, announced it had, as expected, purchased about 12 acres at the foot of the Chain of Rocks bridge.

Tractor trailer accident kills one

Update: As of 1:30 pm, all lanes of traffic on westbouund Interstate 270 across the Chain of Rocks bridge were open. Both eastbound lanes remain closed.

Update: As of 10:45 am, crews had re-opened one lane of Interstate 270 traveling westbound across the Chain of Rocks bridge. All eastbound lanes remain closed.

A man trying to push his disabled car out of traffic on the Chain of Rocks bridge Wednesday morning is dead after being struck by a tractor trailer.
