McCaskill raises more than $1 million for campaign

Sen. Claire McCaskill reports raising more than $1 million for her re-election campaign in the first quarter in 2011, a strong showing for the first-term incumbent.

The Missouri Democrat's campaign released the numbers on Tuesday. Candidates are required to submit their fundraising reports to the Federal Election Commission by April 15.

McCaskill raised $1.05 million in 2011. Her campaign also reported that she had nearly $1.8 million cash on hand.

Report: McCaskill spent less on travel than others

A newspaper's review of travel records has found that U.S Sen. Claire McCaskill spent far less for four years of flights on her private plane than two former Missouri senators spent for travel over similar time spans.

Blunt, McCaskill sound-off on possible government shutdown

Congressional budget talks appear headed in a positive direction today, but conservative spending cuts remain obstacles as Congress seeks to avert a government shutdown this weekend.

Missouri Republican Senator Roy Blunt continued to heap blame on Democrats for not passing a budget last year.

"They could have resolved them any way they wanted to last year,” Blunt said. “So their negotiating position is dramatically impacted by their unwillingness to deal with these issues when they were totally in control of everything."
