Perron returns to Blues lineup on Saturday

Blues right-winger David Perron, being introduced here at the Blues' home opener on Oct. 8th, will return to the line-up on Saturday after missing 97 games with post-concussion syndrome.

After 13 months and 97 games, David Perron is ready to lace up the skates once again.

The St. Louis Blues announced today that Perron, the 23-year-old right-winger, will be on the ice when the Blues take on their division rival Chicago Blackhawks on Saturday. Perron suffered a concussion on Nov. 4, 2010 after beingĀ  hit by Joe Thornton of the San Jose Sharks and hasn't played since.

Nixon signs doctor discipline, high school athlete concussion bills

With a day left to act, Gov. Jay Nixon on Wednesday signed three more bills into law. He still must decide on nearly 20 others.

IHSA tightens policy on concussion checks

The Illinois High School Association has approved a new policy requiring high school athletes who leave a game with head injuries to be cleared in the days that follow by a doctor or an athletic trainer working with a physician.

The IHSA board approved the new policy Tuesday. Previously the organization's concussion policy didn't require medical checks after the day the injury occurred.

The policy change follows months of reports on long-term damage athletes suffer from concussions in both pro sports and in college and high school.
