Clay beats Carnahan

In a battle of political dynasties, Congressman William Lacy Clay emerged victorious over fellow incumbent Russ Carnahan Tuesday.

Clay won the Democratic primary to represent the party in the new 1st Congressional District. In a campaign that was often bitter, Clay repeatedly accused Carnahan of going negative with a string of attack ads, but says the strategy didn't work.

Republican businessman Dave Spence has been touting his record creating jobs while campaigning to become Missouri governor. Yet records obtained by The Associated Press show Spence's business had to repay $75,000 of incentives to New York after not meeting a job target.

Missouri gubernatorial candidate Dave Spence touts on his website that he "earned a degree in Economics" from the University of Missouri-Columbia.

What his website doesn't say is that the degree was in home economics.

Spence told the St. Louis Post-Dispatch for a story published online Tuesday that his grades weren't good enough for the business school, so he chose a different academic path that allowed him to graduate on time. He acknowledged that the description of his degree on the campaign's website may be misleading.
