Mo. Rep. Akin adds real estate to federal reports

Missouri Congressman Todd Akin is revising a decade of federal ethics reports to note his stake in some family real estate matters.

The House Republican, who's running for U.S. Senate, is amending his personal financial disclosure reports for 2001 through 2010 to show his stake in property owned by family partnerships in the St. Louis area and Cape Cod, Mass.

Nixon to include legislation on presidential primary in special session

Gov. Jay Nixon says legislation changing the date of Missouri's 2012 presidential primary will be on the agenda for a planned special session in September.

Nixon announced this week he plans to order the House and Senate back to Jefferson City to overhaul the state's business incentives.

Tilley formally announces run for Mo. Lt. Gov. in 2012

As we told you about briefly this morning, Republican Missouri House Speaker Steven Tilley has officially announced his candidacy for Lt. Governor.

Tilley, an optometrist from Perryville, has been a State Representative since 2005, and spent four years as Majority Floor Leader before becoming Speaker.  He says his experience as a lawmaker is a big asset, as the Lt. Governor serves as the official head of the Missouri Senate.

Akin hires former "Swift Boater" as consultant for Senate campaign

The team behind Republican U.S. Rep. Todd Akin's campaign for U.S. Senate announced the addition of a new member today, Chris LaCivita. LaCivita was  "chief strategist for Swift Boat Veterans for Truth, and co-producer of their award winning ads," according to a release from Akin's team.

"Swift Boat Veterans for Truth" was the group involved in disputing the military record of former Democratic presidential candidate John Kerry in the 2004 election.

Mo. state treasurer Zweifel announces plans to run for re-election

Missouri's state treasurer Democrat Clint Zweifel has announced his intentions to keep his job in 2012 via a video announcement on his campaign website.

In the video,  Zweifel highlighted his work with farmers, entrepreneurs and small businesses along with the accomplishments of his "Unclaimed Property Team," among other topics.

A release states that Zweifel will begin his campaign with a kick-off event on June 22 in Forest Park in St. Louis.

U.S. Congressman Russ Carnahan says he still has not decided what political office he’ll pursue next year.

The St. Louis Democrat’s 3rd Congressional District will be eliminated based on redistricting maps approved by Missouri lawmakers. Today Carnahan was asked by reporters if 2nd District congressman Todd Akin’s announcement this week that he’ll run for the Senate makes his decision easier.

Steelman criticizes Akin over federal budget bill

Missouri's Republican U.S. Senate primary is only one day old, and Sarah Steelman already is criticizing Todd Akin over federal spending decisions.

Steelman on Wednesday criticized Akin for voting for a "weak-kneed budget compromise" last month among House Republicans and President Barack Obama that cut $38 billion in spending.

Steelman says Akin should have held out for the full $100 billion in cuts originally sought by House Republicans. She called Akin and congressional Republicans "toothless dragons."

Republican Ann Wagner, who previously announced an exploratory committee for congress, made it official today.

Wagner will run in the Second Congressional District, making her announcement following Akin's official word earlier today.

Mo. House passes March presidential primary bill

Missouri lawmakers have passed legislation to move the state's 2012 presidential primary to March 6 instead of Feb. 7 as currently scheduled.

The House gave the bill final approval in a 137-11 vote Friday. The measure now goes to Gov. Jay Nixon. The Senate had already passed the measure.

The legislation would put Missouri in compliance with rules set by the national Democratic and Republican parties.

Mo. Sen. Cunningham likely to run for Congress

Republican state Sen. Jane Cunningham says she is likely to run for a suburban St. Louis congressional seat if incumbent Todd Akin enters the U.S. Senate race.

Akin, a Republican who represents Missouri's 2nd Congressional District, has said he is seriously considering a challenge to Democratic Sen. Claire McCaskill and will announce a decision soon.
