Livable St. Louis Conference Offers New Vision For The Region

Community visionaries and organizers from across the region held a conference in St. Louis on Friday.   The “Livable St. Louis” conference aims to transform the region through a range of quality of life improvements.

The conference was organized by Trailnet and focused on improving declining neighborhoods through projects such as affordable housing, safe streets, vibrant public spaces and green infrastructure.

Regina Martinez works with a group called the Rebuild Foundation that tries to transform old structures into new community assets.

Grand Opening Brings 120 New Apartments To St. Louis' 18th Ward

Some of the 120 new, mixed-income units now available in St. Louis' 18th Ward at North Sarah Apartments.

120 mixed-income apartments are now available to residents of St. Louis’18th Ward, just north of the old Gaslight Square.

The project, called "North Sarah Apartments," is a LEED-certified green community, with garden style and townhouse apartments.

18th Ward Alderman Terry Kennedy said the project was envisioned by residents over 10 years ago.

Central to their idea, Kennedy says, was the restoration of a commercial district on North Sarah Street.

Unusual demonstration project looks to promote the growth of urban trees

Engineers, arborists, and landscape architects from across Missouri and southern Illinois gathered in St. Louis on Thursday for an unusual demonstration project.

Brightside St. Louis is installing “silva cells” outside its Demonstration Garden and Learning Center at the corner of Kingshighway and Vandeventer.

The goal is to promote the growth of urban trees.
