Chris Carter Joins St. Louis Board Of Aldermen

The St. Louis Board of Aldermen is back at full strength.

Former state Representative Chris Carter took the oath of office Friday at City Hall. Carter won a special election last week to finish the term of his late uncle, Ald. Gregory Carter, who died in a tractor trailer accident in August.

Mo. State Rep. Carter Will Fill Late Uncle’s Seat On Board Of Aldermen

State Rep. Chris Carter won a special election on Tuesday to fill the seat left open on the St. Louis Board of Aldermen after his uncle, Alderman Greg Carter, died in a traffic accident two months ago.

Carter said it’s a bitter sweet victory and his first order of business is to tackle what he views as a cycle of joblessness and crime in his ward.

The St. Louis Board of Aldermen took a brief moment on Friday to remember one of its former members.

Gregory Carter died Aug. 1 in a multi-vehicle accident in St. Charles County. Friday's meeting was the first of the board since his death, though many gathered at a community service last month.

Family, friends and colleagues gathered outside the brick headquarters of the 27th Ward Thursday night to remember the man who had represented the area for the last 13 years.

Ald. Gregory Carter was killed Aug. 1 when the UPS tractor trailer he was driving was involved in a multi-vehicle accident in St. Charles County. He was 54, and leaves behind a wife and two children, as well as two brothers, a sister, and his father.

Members of the St. Louis Board of Alderman are mourning the loss of a colleague this morning. The Missouri Highway Patrol has confirmed that 54-year-old Gregory Carter, Alderman of the 27th ward has died in an early morning crash on eastbound 370 in St. Charles County.

St. Louis alderman Gregory Carter killed in crash

Updated at 7:48 with confirmation from Missouri Highway Patrol (with later updates and more information below):

The Missouri Highway Patrol has officially identified Gregory Carter, alderman of the 27th ward,  as the victim of the early morning vehicle crash on eastbound 370 in St. Charles County.

Carter was killed after the UPS truck he was driving for work collided with a tractor trailer, which was apparently stopped to assist a previous accident. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Carter was 54 years old.
