Missouri Department of Transportation Director Kevin Keith told a panel of lawmakers Tuesday that changes to the interstate, such as widening it to six lanes, could create construction jobs and make the state more economically competitive. Keith said such improvements could cost as much as $4 billion.
Private companies would finance the project up front and collect tolls on I-70 between Kansas City and St. Louis.

The Missouri Department of Transportation and its contractor Millstone Bangert Inc. will permanently close the exit ramp 249A from eastbound Interstate 70 to 10th Street in St. Louis City at 9 a.m. October 10, 2011.
The ramp will be removed permanently so crews can construct roadway and ramps between I-70 and the new Mississippi River Bridge. The new ramps to the bridge will cross directly over the current location of the 10th Street exit ramps.
Drivers can use Broadway exit 250A to get into the city.

MoDOT crews will be closing all lanes of Interstate 64 from Jefferson through the Poplar Street Bridge at 3 a.m. Saturday, with the lanes re-opening Sunday afternoon around 3. An eastbound lane and two westbound lanes of the Poplar Street Bridge will close at 5 a.m. Saturday and re-open around 5 p.m. Sunday. All the lane closures are needed so crews can do earthquake retrofit work.
