Former downtown St. Louis jail escapee charged with having cell phones

Vernon Collins, one of the two inmates who escaped from the downtown St. Louis Justice Center in April, and were later captured, has been charged again. This time, from his jail cell.

St. Louis aldermen: jail security problems make us look like a joke

Lorenzo Pollard, pictured here, is the sixth inmate to escape from a city jail in 15 months. On Wednesday, the city's public safety committee called security conditions at the jail a "joke"

Four jail breaks in 15 months make the city of St. Louis look like a joke.

That was the general consensus of members of the Public Safety committee  on Wednesday following two hours of testimony on the rash of escapes.

The heat wave is to blame in three more St. Louis-area deaths.

Sweltering heat blamed for 3 more deaths in St. Louis

The city health department says a 75-year-old woman is the fifth person to die from the heat in St. Louis this year. Her air conditioner was on but was blowing hot air in her home. She died on Sunday.
