Texting Can Wait - Collinsville Woman, St. Louis Co. Police Working Together To Save Lives

It’s not unusual to see people driving who are talking on the phone, texting, eating or putting on makeup.

Multiple studies show that such activity is as distracting as consuming alcohol and impedes a driver’s ability to drive safely.  In 2010, 3,331 people were killed in distracted driving accidents.

Illinois Road Renamed To Honor Uhl Sisters Killed In Crash

The new signs designating a portion of Interstate 64 between Mascoutah and O’Fallon, Ill. as the Jessica and Kellu Uhl Memorial Highway. The Uhl sisters were killed in a head-on crash with a former Illinois state trooper in 2007.

A four-mile stretch of Interstate 64 between Mascoutah and O’Fallon, Ill., was renamed the Jessica and Kelli Uhl Memorial Highway this morning.

Jessica and Kelli Uhl were killed in a car crash the day after Thanksgiving in 2007. The sisters were hit head on by former Illinois state trooper Matt Mitchell when he crossed a median and slammed into their car at over 120 miles per hour. Mitchell was reportedly responding to an accident while using his in-car computer and making a personal call on his cell phone.
