Nixon to invite Mo. lawmakers to meeting to work on jobs bill

Governor Jay Nixon (D) is planning to host a meeting next week with Missouri lawmakers to broker an agreement on an economic development bill.

The State House and Senate adjourned in May without passing legislation that would have created several new tax breaks, among them a proposal that would have provided $360 million in incentives to transform Lambert Airport in St. Louis into an international air cargo hub.

Illinois April jobless rate falls to 8.7 percent

Illinois' unemployment rate fell to 8.7 percent in April, improving for the 15th consecutive month.

The Illinois Department of Employment Security released the new figures on Thursday.

MoDOT to eliminate 1,200 jobs, close 135 facilities

Snow plows stand at the ready for the Missouri Department of Transportation. MoDOT announced a new plan today that includes reductions in employees, facilities and equipment.

Calling it a "matter of survival" for his agency, Missouri Department of Transportation director Kevin Keith unveiled a five-year restructuring plan this morning that will eliminate 1,200 jobs, close 135 facilities, and sell more than 740 pieces of equipment.
